At Leeper Chiropractic Center, our main objective is to keep the bones of your spine aligned so that your body is equipped to perform all of the functions it was designed to do without any interference. Your spine is intricately designed for support, mobility, and protection. The spine provides support for your core and keeps you upright. In addition, it allows for a significant amount of movement in all directions. Arguably, the most important function of the spine is protection. The spine houses and protects the nervous system, which serves as a line of communication for the entire body. At the heart of the nervous system is the spinal cord, a direct extension of the brain. The spinal cord is protected by twenty-four segments of bone that make up the spine and are able to move independently of each other. Branching from the spinal cord are nerves that serve as the communication pathways between the brain and body. These nerves enter and exit the spine at every level, carrying messages to and from the brain. Unfortunately, some of the segments of the spine can become misaligned and put excess pressure on the cord and the nerves exiting the cord. When a misaligned vertebra obstructs the path of a nerve, the messages the brain and body are sending back and forth can become subject to interference. In many cases, this sort of obstruction can lead to pain. The pain from headaches, backaches, and neck aches is usually what causes people to seek chiropractic care. However, the interference that a misalignment in the spine often causes may also contribute to problems such as high blood pressure and the malfunctioning of the immune system and vital organs. Misalignments are common in the spine because your spine never gets a break. It is constantly at work, whether you are sitting at a desk, performing manual labor, or even resting. This is why it is important for EVERYONE to have his or her spine checked on a regular basis. Eighty percent of the public experiences back pain at some point in their lives. By maintaining a healthy spine, you and your body are better equipped to face the obstacles you meet in your daily life and overcome them pain-free and in good health.
